Since Louis Cottier’s invention of the World Time mechanism in the 1930s, Patek Philippe’s celebrated World Time watches have frequently featured Grand Feu cloisonné enamel dials portraying maps of various regions across the globe.
In 2022, Patek Philippe honoured the vitality of South-East Asia and Oceania with a new white gold edition, showcasing a Grand Feu cloisonné enamel dial.
To unite geography with artistry, the enameller begins by delicately outlining the continents using fine gold wire. These compartments are then filled with a palette of enamel colours to depict the oceans and landmasses. The dial is repeatedly fired at high temperatures in a kiln - a meticulous process that brings the miniature map to life with depth, brilliance, and enduring beauty.
